Who is this Plumber Joe that McCain keeps talking about, and how does McCain know the details of his finances, hopes, dreams, and future?

Lilly Ledbetter shout out!

In which house is the plumbing bad John?

Alright, I know everyone has been saying that McCain needed to put Obama on the defensive tonight - but he came across as a liar. He repeated empty claims about Bill Aires and continued to use his same lines about Obama's tax and health care plans that simply aren't true.

I loved this debate. Finally, I understood what was going on!! Obama looked really good and was quite clear about his points this time around, I thought. McCain seemed like he was floundering at times, and kind of desperate. I didn't think McCain was on his game tonight, but I'm watching the "spin" now and other seem to think he was hitting hard. Maybe it is only my bias talking, but I thought Obama rocked it.

And, yeah, the plumber thing was hilarious to me. But at least it's a break from the wall street-main street dichotomy. I get lost in the economic mumbo-jumbo, but hearing them talk about issues like health care, education and roe v.wade really draws out their differences in a way that works for me.

habladora- Oh, yeah. McCain totally lied all the way through that. Luckily, Obama got to come back each time and say flat out "that's not true." It's a little weird that McCain resorted to out and out lies, when subtle un-deniable spinning of the truth generally works well enough for politicians. But you can't blame McCain for trying...many of his supporters don't seem to care what's true...Sigh.

P.S. I'm watching ABC's debate coverage, and they're comparing Obama's debate strategy to Muhammad Ali's "rope a dope" - hang back and just let your opponent punch himself out attacking you. Maybe I'm just tired, but I am laughing really hard.

I started clapping at the Lily Ledbetter shout out. My friend who was watching it with me had no idea why at first. :)

And I'm glad I got to see this one. McCain was as unconvincing as ever. A lot of his attacks completely lacked substance. Can't wait until November! My first national election. :)

WHAT WAS UP with that "health of the mother" in fucking AIR QUOTES.

I knew McCain was sexist and condescending, but that displayed a level of hatred for women that I have ever seen in my life.

This is Joe the Plumber.

I definitely thought this was the most interesting debate, even though I occasionally wanted to throw things at the screen when McCain got all huffy or lied outright or rolled his eyes.

My favorite moments? Obama clearly stating that he trusts women to make the choice about abortion themselves. Lilly Ledbetter (of course). McCain's hilarious inability to let go of the attack ad angle even after Obama elected to take the high road and said, "I think the American people are less interested in our hurt feelings...than addressing the issues..." And McCain saying that he's "proud" of the people who come to his rallies. Orly?

Also, what's up with the CNN pundits using the word "professorial" as a negative against Obama's debating style?

I really liked this debate, it was the best one. The moderator actually asked tough questions and *gasp* moderated.

I loved that Obama brought up Ledbetter. I actually stopped mid-chop and said to my guy "uh oh! he's going there!" It was awesome and I love Obama.

McCain, however, has me more worried than ever. He was so angry and bitter and showed zero respect for Obama. He kept bringing up irrelevant talking points and trying to sneak them in if Obama caught him off-guard. Very weird.

The air quotes around health of the mother and the referring to Obama as part of the 'extreme pro-abortion movement' really made me lose some more respect for McCain. This is not a man who is trying to be honest with the public and help us make informed decisions - he is willing to misrepresent the truth, even lie, in order to play to our fears and our most base resentments. Notice how, not a week after telling us that he's not like those people at his rallies who say they fear Obama (wonder why?) and yell 'terrorist', McCain is still parroting the line about Obama sitting in living rooms with violent men and that McCain is the only candidate that we can trust?

And what was up with him repeating the 'launched your career from B.A.'s living room' thing even after Obama had detailed his relationship with the man? At what point is it appropriate to just turn to McCain and just ask "what does that even mean? What are you talking about?"

To be honest, I only watched about 10 minutes. Just hearing their voices from the other room was grating. Can this election be over please? (And can Obama win?)

habladora-
I agree with you about the "livingroom" comment. I have heard Obama explain that relationship, and his connection with ACORN all week. It was done, over...It was annoying that McCain kept turining back to that. Also, I saw on CNN clips where McCain himself spoke at an event that was co-sponsored by ACORN where he praises their efforts. He is so full of crap.

And I was so pleased with the answers that Obama gave regarding a woman's right to choose. And I was especially proud of him for answering McCain with a comment that said "No one is pro-abortion."

I was especially put-off by McCain's smug looks and haughty facial expressions. I thought it wsa especially rude that he rudely laughed, or scoffed, a couple of times when Obama spoke.

I really hope that it's over soon and that Obama wins.

I despise Plumber Joe and his big head - I can't really tell you why. Please, no more Joe the Plumber. McCain just likes him because he's grumpy and bald.
