Caribou Barbie Jokes and Palin

SNL had Palin herself on the show this past Saturday. Leader of the liberal media elite, the NY Times, had an article discussing her appearance, and it was right on. She's a celebrity, not a politician.
"Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska made her point by going on Saturday Night Live. She proved she has a sense of humor at a time when the country is still debating whether to take her seriously as a potential commander in chief...And that was what was so remarkable — and jarring — about her engaging, relaxed performance on SNL.
...
Usually elected officials like [McCain, Clinton, or Obama] go on the show to disarm voters by showing their lighter side. Ms. Palin has already shown her lighter side to the public. The one thing nobody has accused her of is being too stiff and sober-minded...And yet on the very weekend that former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell endorsed Mr. Obama on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and cited Ms. Palin’s selection as a reason, and Senator McCain told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” that she was a “direct counterpoint to the liberal feminist agenda for America,” Ms. Palin joked about her nickname, “Caribou Barbie.”"
Instead of building credibility, she's going on the celebrity movie-promotion circuit. She is unfit to be president. And the final line of the article "One thing everybody can agree on is that Gov. Sarah Palin is qualified — to someday host her own television show." Ouch.

My major disagreement with the article was that I didn't find her engaging. I thought she was stiff. Granted, she's next to actors and she's not one, but I thought they gave her a bit too much credit.

Still, I have to say, I would never have the guts to appear in a sketch that disses me personally.

Maggie, on a post of several weeks ago, you commented:

People who support Palin don't want her to be President. They want her to be Oprah or Ellen. And that's actually what makes more sense. She'd be a great talk show host. And it saddens me that a serious female political candidate presents herself that way.

This NYT piece made me think of your comment - the sad thing is that I'm not sure that voters will distinguish between liking Palin as a TV personality and liking her as a VP.

Oh, and the original comment is from here.

I thought the show was disappointing and put her in a real negative light, reinforcing her image as an air head. I got the impression people were laughing at her not with her.

Oh I wouldn't worry Habladora the voters are growing more doubtful.

I didn't like her appearance at all. I agree with Dee that people seemed to be laughing at her, not with her.

The entire Palin rap made me very uncomfortable, I'm still not sure why. I can see that the McCain camp is trying to make fun of Palin so to show that they're not bothered by the jokes made about her, but couldn't they find a better way to do it? I thought the Palin rap was offensive, but I guess that was just me since Palin was dancing right along.
