Hillary Clinton to Accept Secretary of State Position

If The Guardian is to be believed, it's pretty much a done deal:

Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.

Obama's advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton's foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.

Clinton would be well placed to become the country's dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing Condoleezza Rice. Since being elected senator for New York, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. Although she supported the war in Iraq, she and Obama basically agree on a withdrawal of American troops.

Well, what do you think? Are you excited about this appointment? Nervous? Do you think The Guardian is jumping the gun by calling this before anyone else?

I don't think this is a confirmed fact: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15738.html

Yeah, The Guardian seems to be a bit eager. I guess we'll see what happens in the next few days. If Obama does make the offer, they'll be able to crow about their insider status. If not... well, they did hedge here and there just slightly - like us.

Do you think the Bill factor will keep this deal from going through?

Oh my god, I hope it is true! I love Hillary Clinton, and I want only good things for her. And while I would love to see her ascend to a seat of power in the Senate, she's only a two term Senator and there are a long list of people ahead of her there.

habladora - I have to hope that the Bill Factor (or, many aspects to the Bill Factor), do not hinder this at all. I have to think that if there was any doubt about the whole thing, it would never have gotten this far along in the process, because it would be embarrassing for both the Clintons and potentially for Obama if it did.

I heard/read somewhere that if she did accept, they'd probably wait until next week to announce it because Thanksgiving week is usually slow, news-wise. That sounds, to me, like it's quite possibly legit.
