MLK Day of Service

Tomorrow is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday for those of us living in the U.S. of A., and many of us will have the day off. We're not supposed to just sit around and watch Bewitched reruns though, MLK Day is a national day of service. That's right, as Isaac Newton Farris, Jr. - Martin Luther King's nephew - recently explained on my local NPR station, Martin Luther King Day was established in 1994 as a day of community service, a day set aside so that private citizens can get involved in community projects and volunteer work.

If you want to participate, but do not yet have a service project in mind, MLKDay.gov is connecting volunteers with organizations that need them. Also, if you have a project that needs support, feel free to promote in the comments section right here at The Feminist Underground - we'll try to hook you up with fellow feminists and activists ready to lend a hand.
